CM Welcomes Spanish-Language Specialist
International Children’s Ministries (CM) is pleased to announce the addition of Abigahil (Abi) Avila to our staff as a Spanish-Language Training Specialist. In this new role, Abi will direct our training efforts and develop relevant content for our leaders serving in Latin America, the United States, and beyond.
“We are grateful for the open doors we’ve been given throughout Central and South America to deliver training and invest in leaders for more than a decade,” said International Director Shaun McKinley. “We believe that the addition of Abi to our team is a critical next step in taking our ministries to a new level of impact and effectiveness.”
The position, funded through a partnership with the general presbyter offices of Central and South America, will be dedicated to developing resources, coordinating training experiences (virtual and online), and encouraging community among our Spanish-speaking leaders.
Abi, who has served as national director of CM in Honduras for almost ten years, has become an exemplary leader in her own right by setting a high standard for excellence in ministry. The national ministry has reached over 57,000 children with the gospel of Christ through outreach events and Bible clubs. At that same time, hundreds of people have completed an intense certification program for children’s ministers. More than 155 churches have established or strengthened their ministries to children.
This work is being achieved under Abi’s skillful leadership. She has collaborated with International Children’s Ministries to adapt training materials and conduct leadership conferences that have impacted not only Honduras but also much of Central America.
Many tools have been employed to develop leaders throughout Honduras. Primarily, Abi has taken the “Train the Trainers” program offered by International Children’s Ministries and restructured it into a 12-month “Impact Institute.” As a part of the institute, leaders gather once a month in locations throughout the nation for a full day of training facilitated by a qualified leader. Each training presents content on ministry foundations, classroom management, discipleship, evangelism, and teaching techniques.
“A leader is someone who guides the people of God toward the vision God has given them,” said Abi. “I know that God has called me, and I seek only to do His will. I believe that God is doing something unique in this generation, and I am privileged to serve His purposes.”
In 2019, Abi was the first recipient of the Kathyrn H. Creasy Excellence in Ministry Award presented by International Children’s Ministries.
In the short term, Abi will coordinator webinars, Facebook Lives, podcasts, and website content for the ministry. Tentative plans are also underway to present several global virtual conferences (in English and Spanish) in 2021. She will also serve as the Spanish-language track coordinator for ICM 2021 and a featured presenter.
