Thursday, July 16, began with an extended time of intercessory prayer offered by Assembly delegates, led by Bishop Dr. Benjamin Feliz and leaders from Central America, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean. Prayer was offered for nations, government leaders, the vulnerable, persecuted believers, immigrants, and those in need of healing. Testimonies from around the world celebrated God’s protection and the continued growth of the Church, including expanding work in Europe, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, UAE, Malaysia, and Africa. The Assembly also paused to honor deceased ministers before Bishop Dr. Tim Harper preached “A Testimony of Finishing Well,” challenging believers to faithfully complete the race God has given them.
Thursday afternoon featured multiple breakout sessions including a special Pastors’ Leadership Session in the main hall that addressed concerns identified by pastors themselves. Dr. Morais Cassell spoke candidly about the emotional and mental health pressures carried by spiritual caregivers, emphasizing healthy self-care, support, and the Church’s responsibility to communicate, “We see you. We hear you. We value you. We have your back.” Bishop Dr. Shaun McKinley followed with “AI and the Church: Discernment, Tension, and Opportunity,” encouraging pastors to approach artificial intelligence with biblical wisdom rather than either fear or fascination. Reverend Zach Kelley concluded the session with “Built to Last: Three Building Blocks for Church Growth,” emphasizing healthy foundations, discipleship, and building local churches that not only grow but endure.
Thursday evening was marked by energetic worship, ministry from the Assembly Mass Choir, and greetings from friends and ministry partners of the Church. Dr. Billy Wilson encouraged the Assembly to make “big plans” for a big God, and Bishop Sam Addy shared a moving testimony of salvation and God’s power. Bishop J. Drew Sheard, presiding bishop of the Church of God in Christ, brought the evening message, “There Is Power in His Name!” Drawing from Acts 3:6, he proclaimed the authority and saving, healing power found in the name of Jesus, bringing the second day of the Assembly to a jubilant conclusion.
