Statement from the Office of the General Overseer
Passing of Bishop Stephen Masilela
It is with great sorrow that the Church of God of Prophecy International Offices announces the passing of Bishop Stephen Masilela, general presbyter of Africa, after a brief battle with COVID-19. Bishop Masilela was dearly loved by all who had the privilege of working with him and highly esteemed beyond the Church of God of Prophecy for his excellence in ministry and leadership. For the past decade Bishop Masilela’s work as general presbyter has brought continued stability and unity to our ministries in Africa, leading ministries serving more than 350,000 members in 35 nations.
“This is a tremendous loss for our movement,” said General Overseer Sam Clements upon receiving the report of Bishop Masilela’s passing. “We thank God for the legacy of faithfulness and commitment that he leaves behind.”
Bishop Masilela’s ministry and legacy will be celebrated in upcoming issues of the White Wing Messenger, and no doubt additional tributes will be forthcoming from those who served with him.
We are reminded of the words of Psalm 116: 15, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants.” While our hearts are heavy today, we praise God for the promise of Heaven and look with anticipation to reuniting with our brother one day. Until then, we ask you to join with our global family in lifting up Bishop Masilela’s wife, Sibongile, and their three sons in prayer in the days ahead.
