Prayer and fasting is voluntarily going without food to focus on prayer and fellowship with God. Prayer and fasting often go hand in hand, having a dedicated time of prayer and fasting is not a way of manipulating God into doing what we desire. Rather, it is simply forcing ourselves to FOCUS AND RELY ON GOD for the strength, provision, and wisdom we need so, we may become more like Christ. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out.

God’s people failed at fasting… “’Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’ “Yet on the day of your fasting, YOU DO AS YOU PLEASE…your fasting ends in quarreling and strife…you cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.” (Isa.  58:3-4)

When we deprive ourselves of food we must be aware of temper flare-ups! So, does prayer and fasting work?

“Jonah, proclaimed, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” THE NINEVITES BELIEVED GOD. A fast was proclaimed…by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people…taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.” (Jonah 3:3-5, 7)

God sent Jonah to warn Nineveh that they would be destroyed because of their evil ways but they repented with prayer and fasting

“God saw what they did. They stopped doing what was evil. So, he took pity on them. HE DIDN’T DESTROY THEM as he had said he would.” (Jonah 3:10)

More than 120,000 PEOPLE WERE SPARED because of prayer and fasting
