SUMMARY:Pastoring Kids | Pastoreando a los niños\, Mid-Atlantic Region
DESCRIPTION:A BILINGUAL TRAINING EVENT | UN EVENTO DE FORMACÍON BILINGÜE \nPASTORING KIDS!\nDeveloping a Shepherd’s Heart for the Children You Serve \nIsaiah 40:11\, “He tends his flock like a shepherd:  He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart;” \nConsider all the descriptions of a shepherd in the Bible.  He takes care of the flock.  He knows each sheep’s name.  He leads them in and out.  He provides green pasture where they can eat and rest in safety.  He protects the sheep from thieves and wild animals.  He comforts the sheep with the rod and staff. \nToday’s kids need good shepherds.  They need someone who will be interested in their care and committed to providing for their needs.  They need someone who will lead them in the right paths—paths away from self-centeredness\, immorality.  They need someone who will protect\, comfort\, discipline\, and restore.  They need you. \nThis one-day training intensive will encourage and equip you to step up\, to accept your role as a shepherd of the lambs\, those God carries closest to His heart. \nSESSIONS: \nDEVELOPING A SHEPHERD’S HEART FOR THE KIDS YOU SERVE\nSometimes ministering to children feels like babysitting\, entertaining\, cat herding—not shepherding. But shepherding kids isn’t about what others think of ministry\, how ministry is programmed\, or how children behave. Shepherding kids is all about attitude. Discover the attitudes that will help you develop a shepherd’s heart for the children you serve. \nSHEPHERDING KIDS LIVING IN A POSTMODERN WORLD\nPostmodern kids are kids growing up in a changing world. You have the opportunity to make the message of Jesus and the truth of God’s Word relevant and applicable in their world. Take a look at four characteristics of ministry that engage postmodern kids. \nSPECIAL NEEDS\, SPECIAL MINISTRY\nLearn practical strategies for effective ministry to children with special needs. This training covers ADHD/ADD\, dyslexia\, autism\, trauma\, and Down syndrome\, while equipping you with tools for lesson planning\, teaching methods\, and behavior management. You will also learn how to prepare your church to support children with special needs and their families. \n7 WAYS TO SHEPHERD THE CHILDREN YOU SERVE\nShepherding is intentionally investing in the lives of kids. Here are some practical and easy-to-implement steps you can take to make that investment and reap huge dividends. \nMINISTERING TO THE MULTI-AGE CLASSROOM\nFor many smaller churches\, it is the reality\, the necessity – a multi-age classroom or worship service. Working with multi-age groups can be challenging\, but it can also be rewarding and very positive for everyone involved. This workshop will present the thoughts and tools needed for anyone leading a group with multiple ages. \n Lunch and workshop materials are included in the registration fee of $30 in advance and $45 at-the-door. \n__________________________________________________ \nFor information\, contact Merry Ann Carde Garcia (302) 382-2988. \nPara obtener más información\, comuníquese con Merry Ann Carde Garcia (302) 382-2988.

SUMMARY:Shepherding a Generation in Crisis
DESCRIPTION:For every 8 children in your children’s ministry\, class\, or small group: \n\n2 will be physically abused\n2 will have a parent suffering from a mental illness\n2 will witness substance abuse in the home\n2 will experience sexual abuse\n2 will experience divorce or separation of parents\n1 will be emotionally abused\n1 will witness domestic violence\n1 will experience emotional neglect\n1 will experience physical neglect\n\nOverall\, statistically speaking\, 5 of the 8 children in your ministry setting will experience at least 1 traumatic event by the time they leave the youth group. 1 of these children will likely experience 4 or more potentially traumatic events during their childhood. \n(Reaching Hurting Kids Institute\, 2022)\n \nWhy Trauma-Informed Children’s Ministry Matters \nWhether we observe it or not\, traumatic events impact children\, so they also impact our ministries to them. Trauma leaves children feeling fearful\, anxious\, rejected\, and out of control. It affects their reactions\, feelings\, and emotions. Many times\, their behavior reflects their feelings\, and they do things they later regret. Sometimes these students withdraw from activities or outright reject our expressions of love. Conversely\, some children will hold on tight to us and overwhelm us in need of attention\, affirmation\, or security. Trauma also leaves children with very little self-worth. \nYou might be asking\, “Aren’t these challenges better addressed by professional counselors and psychologists?” While this may seem true\, as ministers\, we must also recognize another truth: \nChildhood trauma creates barriers that prevent hurting children from coming to Jesus. \nBecause many children who experience trauma demonstrate challenging attitudes and behaviors\, there is often a wedge between them and others\, particularly those of us in positions of authority. These children do not trust others\, do not feel loved by them\, and often feel unworthy of our love and the love of Christ. \nOur children’s ministries must be prepared to embrace\, serve\, and love children who have experienced the pain and loss of trauma. Our ministries can provide a place where kids who have experienced trauma feel safe\, valued\, and connected. We can create conditions where healing can occur in the lives and spirits of these children. \nWhen we help children process and heal from trauma\, we remove the barriers that prevent them from coming to Christ. Furthermore\, we partner with Christ in his work of reconciliation and restoration. This is at the heart of our vision and purpose as a church. \nWhen we become equipped agents of healing\, through the power of the Holy Spirit we can tear down the barriers to the Gospel and impact the lives of children who have experienced trauma. \nFor information regarding overnight accommodations\, contact Michelle Clouse at (662) 610-4864.
