It may seem simple, but Christmas is a good time for children to reflect on their year and what is to come in the year ahead. Have children create prayer and praise ornaments as a reminder of all that God has done. You will need the following:
- Clear plastic ornaments (can be purchased online or at a craft store)
- Colored paper cut into thin strips
Once you have all your supplies, the rest is easy. Have children write one prayer request or the names of several people they plan to pray for the next year on multiple strips of colored paper. Next, place the paper in the ornament, place the lid on, and tie with a ribbon. The last thing they are to do is pray over the ornament and then hang it on the tree. The same steps can be repeated with the praise ornament.
This is a great activity for kids to do with their families. Families may choose to let each individual create an ornament, or have one ornament that holds the prayers and praises of the whole family.
If you choose to do this activity at church, try to help kids think of prayers and praises that involve the church members, children’s ministry, and church as a whole.
