Oma Lee Hensley Murray of Charlotte, North Carolina, went to be with her Savior on August 2, 2018, at the age of 89. Born in Madison County, North Carolina on June 18, 1929, Oma Lee, while a young girl, also lived in Asheville, North Carolina, and Seattle, Washington. In 1949, Oma Lee married Billy D. Murray and remained his faithful companion for 55 years until his death in 2004. To their union were born three children: Dwayne, Susan, and Beth. Oma Lee was a cherished wife and mother who loved her family well.

Soon after their marriage, Billy accepted his call into Christian ministry. From that point forward, Oma Lee served alongside her husband as he ministered in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Illinois, and as a global leader for the Church of God of Prophecy.

Oma Lee’s interests included: creative writing, cooking, home decorating, and needlework. She also served as a volunteer hospital aide, Sunday School teacher, and women’s ministry leader and speaker. Her love for God was evident in: Bible study, prayer, and personal encouragement. She was a woman of intelligence and integrity.

Oma Lee is preceded in death by her husband, Billy D. Murray; her father, Ulysses Grant Hensley; her mother, Ornan Norton Hensley Fender; her brothers, Brewer Hensley, Eugene Hensley, Jack Hensley; and her son-in-law, Tim Aukerman. She is survived by her son, Dwayne (Sterlene) Murray of Hendersonville, TN; her daughters, Susan (Larry Duncan) of Coweta, OK; and Beth Aukerman of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind siblings, Patsy (LWood) Taffer, Roger (Sharon) Fender, and Norma Fender, all of Mars Hill, NC. In addition, she leaves behind grandchildren, John (Leia) Duncan of Waco, TX; Laura (Brandon) Corn of Broken Arrow, OK; Sarah (Daniel) Hobbs of Hendersonville, TN; Kathryn, Emily, and Abigail Aukerman of Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Corn and Grace Hobbs.

Family visitation will be on Friday, August 10 from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Jim Rush Funeral Home, North Chapel located at 2600 North Ocoee Street NW in Cleveland, Tennessee. The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Bishops Larry Duncan, Benjamin Duncan, and Fred S. Fisher, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, located at 7180 North Lee Highway, with John Duncan, Daniel Hobbs, Morris McAulay, Johnny Vaughn, Perry Horner and David Taylor serving as casket bearers.
