“ON THE third day, there was a wedding at Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited with His disciples to the wedding. And when the wine was all gone, the mother of Jesus said to Him, they have no more wine! Jesus said to her, [Dear] woman, WHAT IS THAT TO YOU AND TO ME? [What do we have in common? Leave it to Me.] My time has not yet come.” (John 2:1-4) AMP

[I used the Amplified translation here because it shows more clearly that Jesus was not choosing to disrespect his mother, because, as man, Jesus was David’s Son and hers; yet, AS GOD THE SON, Jesus was David’s God and hers, and this was a gentle reminder, that Mary must begin to look upon Jesus as her Lord!]

“His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” (John 2:5)

[When there is a marriage, it would be very desirable, to have Jesus Christ present; to have his spiritual gracious presence, to have the marriage preserved and blessed by him: the marriage is then very honorable! She directed the servants to be ready to immediately do whatever He needed, and not to make their requests to her, as they probably had done. She quits all pretensions to an influence upon him, or intercession with him; “just do what He asks”!]

“Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so, THEY FILLED THEM TO THE BRIM.” (John 2:6-7)

[What does Jesus need to perform a miracle? Whatever He asks for!]

“Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine…”Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; BUT YOU HAVE SAVED THE BEST TILL NOW.” (John 2:8-10)

[When Jesus performs a miracle, IT WILL ALWAYS BE THE VERY BEST. We were created by Him as were these grapes. He knows all about what would taste wonderful and created this wine just that way!]

“What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was THE FIRST OF THE SIGNS THROUGH WHICH HE REVEALED HIS GLORY; and his disciples believed in him.” (John 2:11)

[These whom he had called, had not seen any miracle until now, and yet followed him, they saw this miracle, they shared the testimony of this miracle, and had their faith strengthened by it!]

“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And OUR FELLOWSHIP IS WITH THE FATHER AND WITH HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST.” (1 John 1:3)

[Just do whatever asks you to do and all will be well!]
