Early Messengers Archived Digitally

Early Messengers Archived Digitally

The early history of the Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) is now easier to access than ever! The Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center recently completed digitization of the COGOP’s flagship periodical, the White Wing Messenger, from 1923 to 1954. These years (consisting of 765 issues) are now accessible on the Consortium of Pentecostal Archives website.

The COGOP is a significant classical Pentecostal denomination with over one million members in over 130 countries worldwide. Established in 1903 and with headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, the COGOP shares a common history with another classical Pentecostal denomination, the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). In recent years, the COGOP has been forging closer relationships with its sister Pentecostal fellowships.

The digitization of the White Wing Messenger was itself a cooperative effort across the denominational divides. The Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center (the archives of the Assemblies of God) completed the digitization of the project. The idea for the project originated with Tim Carter, Director of the Arise Shine Pentecostal Historical Center. Carter suggested to Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center Director Darrin Rodgers that the White Wing Messenger needed to be digitized. The Arise Shine Pentecostal Historical Center is the archives of the [Ephesus] Church of God, a small denomination which has its roots in the COGOP. Rodgers approached Dr. David Roebuck, Director of the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center (the archives of the Church of God [Cleveland, TN]), and asked him if he could make contact with the appropriate person within the COGOP to secure permission. Roebuck contacted Paul Holt, who serves as Executive Director of Finance and Administration for the COGOP, who agreed to allow the magazine to be digitized. Through Roebuck’s encouragement, the COGOP became a member of the Consortium of Pentecostal Archives (CPA), a cooperative effort of Pentecostal archives, denominations, and publishing houses. Other CPA members include the denominational archives of the Assemblies of GodChurch of God (Cleveland, TN), the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, and the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. The digitized issues of the White Wing Messenger are now accessible and text-searchable on the CPA website.

The years of the White Wing Messenger that have been digitized (1923-1954) are important because of the rarity of those issues and their importance to the formation of the COGOP. During these early years, the White Wing Messengerwas published in a large newspaper format and very few copies survived. Starting in 1955, the magazine changed to a magazine format, and the denomination began selling annual bound volumes of the magazine. Bound volumes of these later years are located in various libraries and archives and are accessible to researchers. However, the years 1923 to 1954 were not very accessible to researchers.

Paul Holt expressed gratitude for the assistance in preserving and promoting the COGOP’s heritage. He stated, “we are deeply appreciative to the Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center for their willingness to digitize this historic material.  We are also pleased to join hands with our friends in the Pentecostal movement to celebrate our rich heritage while also moving forward to touch the world with the good news of Jesus Christ.” Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center Digital Archivist William Molenaar supervised the digitization project and was assisted by Archives Specialists Michelle Rahmoeller and Caleb Whitlow.

Fields of the Wood Renewal Campaign

Fields of the Wood Renewal Campaign

Over the past year God has been doing some wonderful things for Heritage Ministries, and more specifically, for Fields of the Wood. Support has been growing, as has park attendance. But the park is nearly 75 years old, and many, if not all, of the markers and structures need attention. The park has stood as a testament to the faithfulness of God for 75 years, and we want it to thrive for another 75. We have labeled this undertaking as our “Fields of the Wood Renewal Campaign” (#fowrenew).

Over the past year, smaller projects have been the focus:

  • Water has been run to Prayer and Ten Commandment Mountain.
  • A new employee was hired to begin the daunting task of pressure washing everything.
  • The road atop Prayer Mountain is being extended to reroute near the exit.
  • We’re continuing to clear and trim overgrown tress and hedges.
  • The bathrooms behind the café have all new commodes and fixtures.
  • Problematic septic issues have been addressed.
  • Pool pump and equipment is new, with a new liner coming in the Spring.

People from around the globe continue to help! And you can join in the renewal process too! We have recently simplified the donation process through a new website, Anyone who wants to give to the renewal project can go to and simply click the donate button. Or, a check can be mailed to our offices with “fow renew” in the memo line.

We do hope you’ll consider helping us RENEW Fields of the Wood! Help us continue to declare God’s faithfulness from the Hills of Murphy, North Carolina!

AMD Welcomes Michael Plumley

AMD Welcomes Michael Plumley

Accredited Ministry Development Welcomes Dr. Michael L. Plumley

Accredited Ministry Development (AMD) of the Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) announced on Monday the addition of Dr. Michael L. Plumley to its staff. He will serve in a new role to advise and coordinate program accreditation, development, and assessment.

The mission of AMD is to provide educational programs and training opportunities that are theologically sound and practical in scope so that leadership and ministry within the COGOP movement are equipped to mature spiritually, be fruitful in ministry, and participate in God’s global mission. This mission is primarily being achieved through the Church’s four academic partnerships that provide onsite and online instruction to hundreds of students around the world.

“For the past year, since the inception of AMD, I have been seeking ways to strategically and legitimately bridge our work with the unaccredited training initiatives of the Church,” said Shaun McKinley, director of AMD. “My goal has been to find ways that participants of those programs might be able to receive course credit with one or more of our academic partners. The work that Dr. Plumley will do will help advance our efforts, not only strengthening the training programs offered by Leadership Development and Discipleship Ministries but also giving students opportunities to progress more quickly toward completion of a certificate or degree, if they choose.”

Among his many achievements, Dr. Plumley has completed undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate studies in education, having earned his Doctor of Education (Educational Leadership) degree from Trevecca Nazarene University. He is presently serving on the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), as well as an independent consultant for educator preparation programs with several notable and reputable accredited universities. He has previously served on the Tennessee Education Association Board of Directors, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Unit Accrediting Board, Tennessee Education Association, and National Education Association Resolutions Committee. In 2006, his contributions to education were recognized when he had the distinct honor of being selected as a delegate to the US / China Joint Conference on Education, which was held in Beijing.

“As a son of the Church of God of Prophecy, Dr. Plumley has a deep love for our movement and desires to help us advance the cause of education and ministerial preparation,” said McKinley. “We are beyond grateful and blessed that he has agreed to invest his extensive knowledge and expertise into the early stages of this ministry.” Dr. Plumley is a deacon at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy where he has served on the Finance and Administrative Committee since 2000.

AMD presently collaborates with its partners to offer onsite and online programs leading to the Certificate in Wesleyan-Pentecostal Ministry, Master of Arts in Religion, Master of Arts in Church Ministries, Master of Arts in Counseling, and Doctor of Ministry degrees. AMD has offered courses throughout the world and recently conducted its first international certificate cohort in Chile. Plans are underway to expand these entry-level schools throughout South America and Africa in spring 2018. To learn more, visit

Thank you for caring and giving; please continue to pray for those who must now rebuild their lives.

Messenger Reaches Beyond Barriers

Messenger Reaches Beyond Barriers

Maria Claudia Uitz Canche, along with her husband Esteban Mena Barrera, are members of the first Church of God of Prophecy in Cacalchen, Yucatan, Mexico. Claudia did not have the opportunity to go to school beyond the first grade and Mayan was her first language. When her children began to learn to read, she took the opportunity to teach herself and used the only reading material she could find, the Mensjaero Ala Blanca/White Wing Messenger to learn Spanish, read, and write. Thank God for the ministry of the Mensajero/Messenger that reaches beyond barriers of nations, tribes, and even tongues. You can support this amazing ministry by subscribing to the English, Spanish or French editions or donating at Thank you Minister Abi Velasquez for sending us this inspiring testimony!

07-15-17 Loved Ones Devotion EXTREME JOY AND PLEASURE!

07-15-17 Loved Ones Devotion EXTREME JOY AND PLEASURE!

[My awesome, loving and wonderful Grandchildren, and Annika and Kaleigh, whom I love and pray for every dayWhen we trust in our Abba Father as the way of our obligation to Him, and we live a life of dependence upon Him, and are devoted to him; he knows who we are, HE OWNS US…(we were purchased with the blood of Jesus Acts 20:28). He has keen awareness of every situation we are in and knows what is best for us, and what course to take most efficiently for our relief!]

“Blessed is the one who does NOT WALK in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but WHOSE DELIGHT is in the law of the LORD, and WHO MEDITATES on his Law, day and night.” (Psa. 1:1-2)

[The word “delight” comes from a word that means “extreme happiness” and “immense pleasure”. Let the reading of and meditating on; the word of God, bring us immense pleasure and makes us extremely happy! Whatever others do, WE MUST MAKE UP OUR MINDS TO OBEY GOD! Stephanie, Ethan, Camden, Olivia, Aidan, Landon, Kinsley, Annika and Kaleigh]

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO CONFIRM YOUR CALLING AND ELECTION. For IF you do these things, YOU WILL NEVER STUMBLE, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Pet. 1:10-11)

[The word “election” is from eklogē; a divine selection, choice or choosing!] “You did not choose me, but I CHOSE YOU and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit–fruit that will last–and so that WHATEVER YOU ASK in my name the Father WILL GIVE YOU.” (Joh. 15:16)

Notice: [We must understand that the bible says:] You did not choose me, but I CHOSE YOU and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruitfruit that will last …”!!!] That’s for you: Stephanie, Ethan, Camden, Olivia, Aidan, Landon, Kinsley, Annika and Kaleigh
