WORD OF GOD; EASILY ACCESSED, RARELY USED…

EVERY WORD OF GOD IS PERFECT. He is like a shield to those who trust in him. He keeps them safe.” (Prov. 30:5)

Moses was the author of the first five books of the Old Testament about 1500 BC. John wrote the book of revelation in the late 80’s AD. Which means the Bible was written in about 1,580 years. So, today in 2018 when we do read the Word of God we are accessing words written and perfectly preserved for over 4,000 years! How did God do that? “Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth. NOTHING IS TOO HARD FOR YOU.” (Jer. 32:17)

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and IT IS THEY THAT BEAR WITNESS ABOUT ME, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.” (John 5:39-40)

Jesus spoke this to the Jewish people who were looking for the Messiah but missed Him completely…

STUDY EARNESTLY to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15)

To meet with God’s approval about how we are living for Him we need to seriously study the Word of God! Why? THE WORD OF GOD is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and ABLE TO JUDGE THE THOUGHTS AND INTENTIONS OF THE HEART.” (Heb. 4:12)

LORD, YOU HAVE PRESERVED THE WORD FOR MORE THAN 4,000 YEARS, PLEASE GIVE US THE DESIRE TO READ IT

DON’T LET THE SUN SET ON YOUR ANGER…

“He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is quick-tempered quickly shows how foolish he is.(Prov. 14:29)

When the devil tempts us with anger problems it can make us feel isolated from others, displeased with life, and often misunderstood. When we have a difficult time getting victory over our anger, it can be hard to accomplish what we want to do or develop the relationships we would like to have. The devil deceives us, so we don’t always recognize the source of our anger. We are tempted to think others are at fault for pushing our “buttons” or we may even feel that the everyone is against us.

“This you know, my beloved brethren…everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and SLOW TO ANGER; FOR THE ANGER OF MAN DOES NOT ACHIEVE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.” (Jam. 1:19-20)

We may ask, why did God give us the ability to get angry? Because God want’s us to hate sin and be angry at unrighteousness. But He warns us: “In your anger do not sin“: DO NOT LET THE SUN GO DOWN WHILE YOU ARE STILL ANGRY, and do not give the devil a foothold.” (Eph. 4:26-27)

This is very wonderful advice from God’s word: Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, TURN ALL YOUR WORRIES OVER TO HIM. He cares about you. (1 Peter 5:6, 7)

GIVE US THE DESIRE AND EMPOWER US TO TURN ALL OUR CARES OVER TO YOU, LORD…

LIVING IN THE FEAR OF THE LORD…

“In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence and his children will have refuge. THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS A FOUNTAIN OF LIFE, that one may avoid the snares of death.” (Prov. 14:26-27)

We know that it is very important for us to understand the “fear of the Lord”. It is necessary to know that there are two aspects of this fear, the most common one we hear about today is the “awe, reverence and respect” aspect but there is also the “fear of punishment” aspect.

“Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. LIVING IN THE FEAR OF THE LORD and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.” (Acts 9:31)

The believers were seeing great miracles and amazing growth, “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.” (Acts 4:32) The Christians decided to sell what they could and build up the work of the Lord but as he always does, the devil tempted Ananias and his wife Sapphira, to hold back some money for themselves so they lied about how much money the received for their property when they gave their offering. Peter said why did you lie? The Lord struck Ananias and later Sapphira, dead. And GREAT FEAR came over the whole church, and over all who heard of these things.” (Acts 5:11) So the word of God spread. The number of disciples…INCREASED RAPIDLY (Acts 6:7)

HELP US LORD TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF  FEARING YOU

IN THE SPIRIT AND IN THE TRUTH…

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I GIVE THEM WILL NEVER THIRST. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them A SPRING OF WATER WELLING UP TO ETERNAL LIFE.” (John 4:13-14)

We are created with a spiritual thirst, it cannot be satisfied with alcohol or anything else that may try to fulfill the lusts of the flesh. It can only be satisfied with the spiritual life that Jesus gives us

“…a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father IN THE SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. GOD IS SPIRIT, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24)

God is seeking for those who will be willing to drink this water of life and worship Him in spirit and in truth…

Jesus answered, “I am…the truth…” (John 14:6) “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6)

With the coming of Christ, we all as God’s children have gained equal access to God through Him. Worship became a matter of the heart, not external actions, and directed by truth rather than ceremony.

SO, TODAY WOULD BE A GOOD DAY TO WORSHIP THE FATHER IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH

WHAT’S WRONG WITH TELLING A LITTLE LIE…

“So, Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you 1CONTINUE in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL MAKE YOU FREE.” (John 8:31-32) 1menō:  To continue in Christ is to follow his example of a life obedient to the will of God.

The devil introduced man to lying in the Garden of Eden. When he deceived Eve into tasting the forbidden fruit and persuading Adam to partake as well. This was after God very clearly told Adam: “…from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil YOU SHALL NOT EAT, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.” (Gen. 2:17)

So, Adam who was created by God to live forever, began to die when he allowed a lie to order his steps. Why is this so significant? Because: “…it is IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE…” (Heb. 6:18), Jesus answered,I AM the way and THE TRUTH and the life.” (John 14:6) “…the Father, will give you…THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH. The world cannot accept him…But you know him, for he lives with you and WILL BE IN YOU.” (John 14:16-17)

The ninth commandment says: “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” (Exodus 20:16) To “give false witness” means to lie.

“Rather, SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE…” (Eph. 4:15)

SINCE WE ARE FILLED WITH TRUTH, LET’S MAKE SURE WE ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH

CONDEMNATION OF DARKNESS, THE LIGHT OF OBEDIENCE…

“God did not send his Son into the world to 1condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him IS NOT CONDEMNED, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son…” 1krinō: to pronounce a judgement concerning right and wrong.

If we choose to reject Christ, we condemn ourselves and will continue to walk in darkness…

“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. EVERYONE WHO DOES EVIL HATES THE LIGHT, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth COMES INTO THE LIGHT, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” (John 3:17-22)

When we choose to walk in the light we condemn the darkness and begin walking in the light, loving the truth and what we do becomes pleasing to God!!!

OUR WILLINGNESS TO WALK IN THE LIGHT IS VERY PLEASING TO THE LORD

THE GREAT SECOND WORK OF GRACE…

“Jesus was handed over to die for our sins. He was raised to life IN ORDER TO MAKE US RIGHT WITH GOD. Therefore, since WE HAVE BEEN JUSTIFIED BY FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him WE HAVE ALSO OBTAINED ACCESS BY FAITH INTO THIS GRACE IN WHICH WE 1STAND, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Rom. 4:25, 5:1-2) 1histēmi: to cause a person to keep his place.

When we accept, by faith, that Jesus died for our sins, we are saved, born again or regenerated. Now Paul talks about anothergrace” that enables us to “keep our place” or to “stand”. In other words, this second work of grace empowers us to stay saved! It is called “sanctification”. “…now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, RESULTING IN SANCTIFICATION, and the outcome, eternal life.” (Rom. 6:22)

Regeneration is new birth; sanctification is growth. In regeneration, God implants desires that were not there before: a desire for God, for holiness, and for glorifying God’s name; a desire to pray and worship; a desire to love and bring benefit to others. In sanctification, the Holy Spirit “works in us, both to will and to work(Phil. 2:13) according to God’s purpose, enabling His people to fulfill their new, godly desires.

SANCTIFICATION EMPOWERS US TO RESIST THE DEVIL…

JESUS, GOD THE SON…

“…grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, WHO IS HIMSELF GOD and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” (John 1:17-18)

It was revealed to John that Jesus was God the son and was in a very close relationship with God the Father

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, THE LAMB OF GOD, WHO TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD…I came baptizing with water…then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is THE ONE WHO WILL BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.‘ I have seen, and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.” (John 1:29-34)

As we know John the Baptist was born to be a forerunner of Jesus Christ but, did not really know who He was so, God gave Him a message of how Jesus was to be recognized…

“When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened, and THE HOLY SPIRIT DESCENDED ON HIM IN BODILY FORM LIKE A DOVE. And a voice came from heaven: YOU ARE MY SON, WHOM I LOVE; WITH YOU I AM WELL PLEASED.” (Luke 3:21-22)

GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT…

LET THERE BE LIGHT AND LIFE…

“In JESUS WAS LIFE, and THAT LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF ALL MANKIND…There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. THE TRUE LIGHT that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, He gave the right TO BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD—” (John 1:4, 6-12)

Notice how it says: “In Jesus was life and that LIFE WAS THE LIGHTSo, not only is Jesus the light of the world but He is the life of the world…That is what being “born again” is all about, our eyes are opened to the light of the world and we receive new life; Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is A NEW CREATURE; the old things passed away; behold, NEW THINGS HAVE COME.” (2 Corin. 5:17) Jesus gives us the opportunity to start out with all things new, walking in new light

“…if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son CLEANSES US FROM ALL SIN.(1 John 1:7)

LET’S REJOICE AS WE WALK IN NEW LIFE IN THE LIGHT

THAT SEEMS TO BE RIGHT…

“There is a way which 1seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it IS THE WAY OF DEATH.” (Pro. 14:12) 1seems: to give the impression of being something that it is not

We are often fooled by our own understanding

TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART and do not lean on your own understanding. IN ALL YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, And He will make your paths straight.” (Pro. 3:5-6)

We are warned in the Word to trust in the Lord with our all and not to do what “seems right”…

“The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! “For God knows that in the day you eat from it YOUR EYES WILL BE OPENED, AND YOU WILL BE LIKE GOD, KNOWING GOOD AND EVIL.” (Gen. 3:4-5) Now that sounded good to Eve and “seemed” to be right. So, she sinned and led Adam to sin as well. God said: “…from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil YOU SHALL NOT EAT, for in the day that you eat from it YOU WILL SURELY DIE. (Gen. 2:17)

LET’S PRAY THAT WE WILL NOT DO WHAT SEEMS TO BE RIGHT
