New Church Opened, Vision for Church Planting in Guyana

Home / Press Release / New Church Opened, Vision for Church Planting in Guyana

Bishop Earl Higgins, National Overseer of Guyana recently shared a report of the exciting ministries and activities within his nation. As you read this report, join with us in praying for the work in Guyana.

Report from “Operation BreakthroughImage-7
Pastors Clement Moore, Roy Abraham, and I worked on the church building and conducted Camp Meetings in the evenings and the Sunday morning service. Our Amerindian brethren are very excited about being in their own building. We are getting set to commence construction of the shed, 30 feet by 40 feet in front, which will be enclosed over time and eventually serve as the church building. The completed building will serve as sleeping quarters when we visit. A team of Guyanese women, Pastor Clement Moore, and I are scheduled to conduct Vacation Bible School and Camp Meetings at Mora, July 13-17. The erecting of the shed and the Mission Trip in July is a project sponsored by the Women’s Ministries led by Sister Vivieen Murray from the South Ozone Church, Queens, New York, USA.

Revitalizing Church Planting in Guyana
Image-3Internationally, the Church of God of Prophecy more than doubled its membership under the theme: Turning to the Harvest – the vision of our late General Overseer, Billy D. Murray. Guyana embraced that vision.

In our White Wing Messenger, dated October 2007, Bishop Brice Thompson, then General Presbyter of the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean Islands, wrote an article entitled: “Revitalizing Church Planting in Guyana.” We had lost our momentum in Church planting. Like Nehemiah, I was saddened, inspired, and challenged by the contents of that article.

At our National Convention, May 2008, I preached on the topic: Vibrant Local Churches – Revitalizing Church Planting in Guyana. The local Church at Antioch was presented as our model.

At our Caribbean Leadership Conference in St. Maarten, January 2013, I presented a document entitled: My Personal Vision on Revitalizing Church Planting in Guyana. I set the goal to plant two Churches in 2013. At the conference, a brother from Haiti told me that was already done. In 2013, Churches were planted at Moruca and Novar. In November 2014, a local Church was planted at Better Hope. To God be all the Glory!

We are believing God to plant ten new Churches in the next two years.

Image-1Bishop Vidal’s (General Presbyter of South America) vision on Church planting presented at our Caribbean Leadership Conference in Jamaica, January 2015, was fuel for the fire in my spirit.

All that we do will lead towards planting churches. Volunteers for Church planting will be mobilized and trained by our Centre for Biblical Leadership, utilizing the Strategies of Church Multiplication Network. We are inspired by William Carey: “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.”
