3:45-5:00 -"Building Income Streams for Your Church" - Since they are involved in a $35 million building project, fresh ideas are needed and will be shared.

General Session - Thurs AM 9-12
#3 "5 Most Important Ministries for Attracting New People"
#4 "Building a Volunteer Army"
Afternoon Workshop - Optional
2:00 - "Restructuring from a Shepherd to a Rancher" - Are you stuck at 50, 75, 100, or even 200 people. It may be because you are stuck in Shepherd mode and you need to shift into Rancher mode. Attend this workshop and you will learn what holds pastor's back from going to the next level of in their church. This one leadership concept doubled Dr. Cutshall's church and multiplied his effectiveness as a pastor.
3:45-5:00 - "Deacons and Elders Ministry" (Lay Ministry, not administrative elders) With over 100 deacons, 32 elders and wives, we will look at this issue through the lenses of Acts 5, 1 Peter 5.

General Session - Fri AM 9-12
#5 "Vision Cycles – Vision Casting"
#6 Questions and Answers (Question sheets are to be turned in at the end of each sessions earlier)

  • Jan Couch (International Stewardship Ministries Director) - "The Pastor's Compensation Package" This workshop will deal with: Housing; Health Insurance; Expense Reimbursement; 403(b) Matching Retirement and more.
  • John A. Stone (Senior Pastor - Keith St. Ministries) "The Pastor and F&S/Board" This workshop will offer: How to Choose and Use an Effective F&S/Board;  F&S to take ownership of stewardship (offerings, fund raising, budget); Pastoral Role in Stewardship and more.
  • Randall Howard (General Overseer) - "Our Values and the COGOP Call Into Our Future"
as well as "Leadership of the COGOP Today."
  • Clayton Endecott - (General Presbyter for Europe)
    *  "Ministering in a Post Modern Setting" - How can I connect with the world we live in today? We will look at "Alpha - Evangelism."
    * "Connecting in a Pastoral-Pentecostal Way" - We may borrow from Willow Creek, Rick Warren, and others, but we are charged to "Pastor Pentecostally."
  • David Browder (General Presbyter for Asia/Oceania) "Practical Ministries for Harvest Minded Churches" We often think of ministry as preaching or teaching, but there are many unlimited things that can open the door for sharing the "Good News".
  • Cathy Payne (International Womens Ministries Director) "Designing An Effective Women's Ministry" Most pastors can quickly agree that the largest segment of their local church body seems to be women. While some local fellowships perceive this to be restrictive, research indicates that churches who minister to, train, and use women in leadership are balanced, growing churches. This insightful overview can help pastors and leaders catch a vision for what God can do through a ministry directed and designed to and for women.
  • Don Brock (International Administrative Committee, Tomlinson Center Board Member) "Every Pastor Counsels" This workshop will deal with: every pastor is called upon to some extent by people needing counseling; when should a pastor refer someone to professional counseling; ethics for pastoral counselors; pastors model spiritual and emotional health; duel role relationships (pastor/counselor); confidentiality and more.
  • Tim Coalter (Overseer of South Carolina) The Pastor's Coach - How important is it to have a good coach? One has to look no further than then men's basketball program at Duke University. The Duke Blue Devils are recognized as a perennial powerhouse in college basketball. In 1990 coach Mike Krzyzewski led his team to 29 wins and only 9 losses. In the seasons that followed, they recorded 32 wins in 1991, 34 wins in 1992, 24 wins in 1993, and 28 wins in 1994. The Blue Devils consistently enjoyed winning seasons until 1995 when the team suffered a losing season with only 13 wins and 18 losses. The following year the team returned to its winning ways and continues to be one of the most dominant programs in college basketball.  What was unique to the 1995 losing season? This happened to be the year that Coach Krzyzewski suffered a back injury. After leading his team to a 9-3 record the doctors sidelined him for the rest of the season. Without Coach K at the helm, the Blue Devils lost 15 of their remaining 19 games. Obviously, good coaching can mean the difference between winning and losing. One can't help but wonder how a minister's performance could be enhanced with the right coaching and mentoring. In this class we will explore this dynamic power of partnership.
  • Darren Schalk (Sunday School Curriculum Editor) "Is Sunday School Dead?"  Many feel Sunday school is a dying tool. Is it? Can it still be utilized in some way, shape, or form today? If Sunday school isn't the right model for Christian education, what is? What type of model did Jesus utilize when He made disciples? If you're struggling to find the proper model to make disciples in your church, join us as we think through and discuss ways to revitalize your Christian education program.
  • Virginia Chatham (Managing Editor of the White Wing Messenger, English)
    * "Writing and Speaking Tips for Pastors"  This class will concentrate on the misapplication of grammar and the misuse of vocabulary in writing and public speaking.  We will consider the common (and often comical) mistakes that are found in publications (bulletins, magazines, correspondence, etc.).
    * "Christian Writing Course"  (A How-to Book for Christian Writers) This class is a practical approach to the fine art of writing and is designed to help potential writers develop their God-given talent. This class is a great starting point for anyone who believes God may be leading them to write.
  • Steve Wilson, Jr. (Lead Pastor, Peerless Road, Cleveland, TN) "How to Attract More First Time Guest and Keep Them" - It's not enough to just attract first time guests - you must learn how to keep them! Recent studies show that the average first time guest to your church, now makes a decision whether to come back or not within the first 7 minutes they step on your campus. This class will discuss practical steps that will help you create an inviting environment for your first-time guests-one that they will want to come back to time and time again!
  • Kirk Rising (State Youth Director for North Carolina) Technology in the Church - See / Hear / Experience [Do They See what I am Saying?] -  With the glaring statistic that we retain more from what we see than what we hear, how are you as a Pastor or leader "showing" the Word of God to your congregations. Jesus throughout his ministry used imagery such as parables, lilies, birds, trees etc. How are you casting vision? How are you developing themes?  Do God's words come alive and leap off the page and into the heart  souls who look and listen. This workshop will show how to develop and discover resources to visually enhance  your message, vision or mission in your ministry. Projectors, computers, lights, sound, web resources such as backgrounds, videos, video clips, sound clips, research tools, will all be covered. This will be a "hands-on" practical workshop.
  • Walter Doroshuk (Overseer of Western Canada) "Engaging Membership in Ministry, the New Testament Model" - The ministry of the contemporary church is often relegated to pastor and staff of paid leaders who provide a multiplicity of programs and ministries as a service to the congregants who leave the church gathering with little more than the scratch of a spiritual itch and little positive kingdom impact. The New Testament reveals principles that bring revival because the members are engaged in the ministry. The church should perhaps be more of a scattering than a gathering. We will explore these principles. (Wed.)
  • Scott Gillum (Overseer of Kentucky)  The Servant Leader - In the climate of our society and with the question being asked in public forums such as , talk shows and many editorials, "Where have all the leaders gone?" an attitude seems to have become very clear. People want to know what has happened to the legendary leaders who commanded situations and exemplify authority that has a foundation in integrity and character, rather than image and controversy. Pastors are challenged as Jesus was with three universal and powerful temptations – 1) instant gratification, 2) recognition and applause and 3)  improper use and lust for power. In this season of leadership, the fruit of your service will be directly related to your responses in these areas. We will examine Jesus' responses to these temptations as well as His call to servant leadership.
  • Dr. Sylvester Smith (Tomlinson Center Instructor, Senior Pastor, Anniston, AL)
What I Wish I Had Known Before My First Pastorate - This workshop offered by a veteran pastor will touch on temptation, prayer, relationship with your spouse, offering balance, your children, rest, relaxation and recreation, finance, taxes, a debt-free lifestyle, tithing, savings, retirement and so much more!
  • Dr. John Christopher Thomas (Church of God Theological Seminary)
The Authentic Practice of Footwashing &
    The Blessing of Communion -
  • Chris Weathers (Youth Pastor, future Senior Pastor, Harvest Worship Center, Taylor, MI)
Second Chair Doesn't Mean Second Best - It is a God-given opportunity for associates to partner with the Senior Pastor to serve the needs within the Kingdom of God.  Serving from the second (or third, fourth, or fifth) chair has its challenges both naturally and spiritually, but it also offers dynamic victories.  In this workshop, we will focus on several Scriptural models as well as glean from our own experiences that we may discover:
    * the significance and role of the second chair
    * how to partner with the spirit of an armor bearer
    * that second chairs do not settle for being secondary dreamers
  • Winston Reid (Wildwood Avenue, Cleveland, TN)
Community Relationships: A Key to Church Health - Churches can no longer sustain or defend the old Protestant tradition of "saving souls only" apart from practical involvement with communities and community-related issues. In this day of God's greater harvest, church leaders must embrace the idea that genuine involvement with socio-economic issues of community life is a vital key to enhancing the church's internal well being and its presence in society. Building good community relationships and interacting effectively with community leaders are areas of church life that must be prioritized, developed, and sustained. Relational leaders must assume this responsibility and lead the way.
  • Duke Stone (Senior Pastor, Hickory Valley, Chat., TN)
Igniting Spiritual Formation: Challenging Your Congregation to Rediscover Their Passion For God - This would explore the Kings of Judah as they led the nation through spiritual renewal and decline. It will explore the importance of developing our congregation's spirituality as well as all of the structural development necessary. I have been preaching on this at our church for the past month and it has really challenged our people (and me) to  examine our passion for God. Probably would need two days on this one.
  • Dr. Fred Garmon (Church of God School of Theology)
Conflict Resolution - What's a pastor to do?
  • John Pace (Overseer of the Heartland Territory [Kansas, Missouri]) "The Spiritual Discipline of ‘Sacred Reading'" - This workshop is for those parched in spirit from constantly pouring out for others and to others, yet, never finding the time to be personally filled and refreshed. For 1500 years Christians have used Lectio Divina (Latin for "Sacred Reading") as a way to be revived by the power of God's Word and as a foundation in their daily relationship with Jesus Christ. Come learn how to practice this proven discipline that will deeply impact your spiritual life.
