CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES
BOTSWANA, SOUTHERN AFRICA

This year, immediately after Assembly, (28 to 31 August 08) Botswana will host a National Camp for children of 10-15 years.  About 250 children from throughout Botswana will attend.

We are blessed to have a motivated, mentoring, committed and faithful Children's Ministry Director (Sister Seboneso Bantusitse) who has over the past 5 years built a children's ministry that has brought the church and its mission to the communities served by our local churches. We have consistently had every one of our 13 local churches hosting a Children's day annually.  Everyone looks forward to this event with great anticipation. In the past 4 years we have partnered with "Samaritan Purse" to make our Children's Days colorful with gifts etc. We have held many training sessions for children's ministry directors, teachers and administrators. The response by teachers is always great.

At all our local churches the children's attendance far outweighs that of youth and adults. In the Molepolole church with a membership of 300 and an adult attendance of about 200, we have about 300 children coming to church most Sundays. In the three year old Gaborone church we have about 70 children coming every Sunday to a church with an adult membership of 40. During one recent survey we noted that up to 80% of these children have no family connections with church members as they are from unchurched neighborhoods. We are excited (sometimes overwhelmed) by this as we know we are investing in these precious souls of kids...... and long before the church engages in formal evangelism we realize how much impact and potential we already have in ministering to the families of these children whose parents and families allow to come to our churches. Part of our training needs is to train all local church ministries to be awake to this and to follow up on the families of these children!
